Meet Ramon Gonçalves @ramoninrec - our expert camera man 🎥 onboard the Abel Tasman.
Ramon is a 🇧🇷 Brazilian photographer and filmmaker with over 20 years of experience. Ramon has a keen eye for visual storytelling, he excels as a camera operator, focus puller, image stabilisation, and drone operation - making him a strong asset for this action-packed expedition exploring the dynamic landscapes and seascapes of the Arctic.
Ramon shares his experience as a valued member of the team 👇🏽:
“The Arctic landscape is unlike anything I have ever seen - massive sheets of ice and extraordinary icebergs 🧊. It’s a natural masterpiece that will never appear the same way twice. Witnessing each new place is indescribable.
But it isn’t just the locations that leave an impact; it is being part of this incredible team that truly makes the experience unforgettable. Without them, these places could feel like just another stop on the map. Being able to share moments like spotting wild animals 🦭🐳 for the first time is magical. One of my favourite moments was a polar bear was spotted: the whole crew rushed on deck, eager to witness and document this rare sight.
Following Sylvestre and Kester with a drone as they soar above with their paramotors 🪂 is one of the greatest challenges I’ve faced. Especially given the added complexity of launching and landing from a moving sailboat ⛵️! But watching back the footage and being able to see the world from their vantage point is breathtaking.
I’ve been picking up sailing skills - which feels just as rewarding as getting a driver’s license. And making friends with locals in every place we visit has been the ultimate prize.
I’m beyond grateful for this experience 🙏🏼. Thank you, Sylvestre, MEDIA.etc. Thank you, Keith, and the whole crew of the Ocean Science Expedition.”
